I have always been enthralled by the way light dances.
The way it glitters on the surface of the water when the sun is high in the afternoon sky, creating a sense of calm.
The way it seems to systematically break through the dense early morning fog in the fall, bringing with it, warmth that drives the chill from the air.
How magnificently the light moves amongst the trees, giving lively illustration to my wandering mind's vivid imaginings.
Photography to me is capturing the light in movement, filtering it through my lens, and creating something truly memorable.
Recently here on the East Coast we had a huge winter storm that eroded the beaches, and exposed many treasures that were once hidden under the depths of the cold waters. In the southern reaches of New Jersey, there sits an historic lighthouse which appears to be not more than a colonial home.
East Point Lighthouse in Heislerville, NJ sits quietly along the shores of the Delaware Bay. The lighthouse has gained a little bit of attention lately due to some upgrades that are underway.
Unfortunately, I was unaware of the upgrades when I ventured there for a photo shoot. Pair that with quickly changing weather and I did not have the experience that I envisioned. Oh well, maybe next time. It was still a very enjoyable experience.
I was able to make the best of it though. Enjoy the images that I was able to capture.
After a bit of a hiatus from the blog for some photographic discovery, I am ready to return. I’m a little older, not much wiser, but with a lot of stories to tell!
In the time spent learning this craft, I have seen and done many things I never thought I would. I stretched my comfort zone…a lot! I am a firm believer that you must try EVERYTHING to know what you do not like. This simple rule has served me well in life, and expanded my horizons. In the past 3 years I have: shot portraits, boudoir, weddings, sweet sixteens, MANY events, head shots, real estate, schools, sports, air shows, military facilities, historical sites, community events, and much more.
I believe each day was spent learning. Learning what I enjoy, and what I never want to do again. Being exposed to new cultures, not understanding a word being spoken, and LOVING every moment of the experience. Seeing the beautiful expressions of the human soul. The selfless giving, devotion, excitement, fear, loss, and love that all of humanity feels.
Going forward, these experiences will help me to follow a path of service and gratitude for what I have been given in my own life.
Usually, my photography is light and definitely has a Summery vibe. I do LOVE summer and the beach, and would prefer it if my daily life resembled this!
Recently, I took one of my very sunny, summer shots and went the other way with it. Here is my attempt at something with a little more of an ominous tone. Hopefully, it makes the observer feel curious about the little girl alone in the woods.
This gorgeous girl wanted to do something very special for her daddy for Father’s Day. She’s fearless, adventurous, sweet, and kind – not to mention absolutely beautiful. It looks like she is the best present he could ever ask for! But these will just have to do. Happy Father’s Day to all of the daddies out there.
